Cyprus

Cyprus is a small island in the Mediterranean Sea south of turkey.  During the sixteenth century it was under constant attack by the Ottoman Empire.  The Greek population started defending themselves with weapons given to them by the Venetians.  Over all Cyprus during the sixteenth century was under constant conflict between the Greeks and the Ottoman Empire.

  3. Hmm.. I read something that said that the Cyprus and the Greeks joined forces many times against the government, not that they were fighting against each other. Weird...

  4. Haley the Ottoman Empire are basicly the ancestors of the Turkish, at the peak of their power they controlled modern day Turkey, the Saudia Arabian pennisula, Egypt and the northern coastal part of Africa, modern day Iraq, the Balkans (modern day Greece, Macedonia, Bulgaria, that general area). Then after WWI they just became Turkey.
Anyhow I wonder what th Venetians would gain from helping the Greeks out in Cyprus?
